Dead & Company’s “The Final Tour” took place in the summer of 2023, marking their last major concert tour since forming in 2015. The tour ran from May 19, 2023, through July 16, 2023. The band concluded the tour with a three-night stand in the Grateful Dead’s home city, at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. The lineup for the final tour included original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, and Jay Lane (who stepped in for Bill Kreutzmann, who did not participate in the final tour).
While it was promoted as “The Final Tour,” Deadheads did not have any idea what might come next. Stacey and I, longtime Deadheads ourselves wanted to see several shows during that summer, but since I was not yet retired, we would have to pick and choose where we went. We did settle first on being at the last 3 shows in San Francisco, and chose a couple close to home in the mid-Atlantic area.
