Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90

Willie Nelson celebrated his 90th birthday with a star-studded, two-night concert event called “Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90”. The sold-out shows were held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on April 29 and 30, 2023, and featured performances by over 50 artists.

Performance and special guests
The legendary concerts included a diverse roster of musicians from country, rock, and other genres, performing songs from throughout Nelson’s seven-decade career. 
  • Star-studded lineup: Performers included Keith Richards, Neil Young, George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Dave Matthews, Snoop Dogg, and Sheryl Crow.
  • Willie’s family: His sons Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson also took the stage.
  • Memorable moments: The concerts included emotional tributes, surprise appearances, and collaborations. Highlights included Kris Kristofferson’s final performance and a crowd sing-along of “Happy Birthday”.
  • Willie’s performance: The man of the hour performed many of his classic songs and closed out the night with “It’s Hard to Be Humble”.
  • Notable performers included: 
    • Keith Richards: Played “We Had It All” and “Live Forever” with Nelson.
    • Neil Young: Joined Nelson and Stephen Stills for “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?”.
    • Snoop Dogg: Performed the stoner anthem “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die”.
    • George Strait: Duetted with Nelson on “Sing One With Willie” and “Pancho & Lefty”.
    • Chris Stapleton: Gave a soulful rendition of “Always on My Mind” and “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning”.
    • The Chicks: Covered “Bloody Mary Morning”.
    • Miranda Lambert: Performed “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys”.
    • Dave Matthews: Sang “Funny How Time Slips Away”.
    • Norah Jones: Joined Kris Kristofferson for “Help Me Make It Through the Night” and performed “Down Yonder”.
    • Sheryl Crow: Sang “Far Away Places” with Nelson.
    • Kris Kristofferson: Gave what turned out to be his final live performance, singing with Rosanne Cash.
    • Lukas Nelson and Particle Kid (Micah Nelson): Willie’s sons performed, with Lukas singing “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground”.
