Goosemas X, the band’s tenth annual holiday celebration, was less a cozy Christmas jamboree and more a mission control launch, signifying Goose’s mass leap into the area circuit. Held over two nights, December 8th and 9thm at the legendary Hampton Coliseum. Goose proved that their production value and ambition have fully left this world.
The theme for Goosemas 2023 was a dramatic departure, shifting from holiday tinsel to deep space. The two nights were stylized as a journey to different planets: Echochrome ( the mirrored planet ) and Inferno Prime ( the Fire planet ). The area transformed with massive reflective surfaces and elevated lighting rigs.
On the first night, the band emerged from a fog dressed in astronaut jumpsuits immediately establishing the tone of the shows. Highlighted by two covers: a monstrous, 23 minute rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” followed later by a jamming Michael Jackon “Man in the Mirror”. The jams firmly cementing the band’s improvisational work within a pop framework.
Set two, Inferno Prime, brought the heat. It kicked off with an explosive cover of Jimmi Hendrix’s “Fire” complete with pyrotechnics. The fiery theme continues with a cover of Talking Head’s “Burning Down the House”
Night Two highlights included a cover of Nena’s “99 Red Balloons” and a special appearance of Bruce Hornsby, who joined the band to perform his classic song, “The Way it Is”.
Goosemas X was a great experience, demonstrating the band’s ability to command an iconic venue with theatrical flair and improvisational rock and roll.
